I’m a twenty-something wedding photographer in Texas who photographs couples who are ready to celebrate their marriage. Building my business has been one hell of a ride, so grab a cup of coffee (or some wine - no judgement here) and join me for my life behind the lens.
Photographers, close your eyes and imagine this. Picture (haha, punny) a magical place where like-minded photographers gather each year. They spend a week photographing brides in stunning dresses with floral arrangements bigger than your face in the middle of the Arizona desert. There are classes each day that help you create the business and life of your dreams. There are dance parties, swag bags, and hugs. So. Many. Hugs.
Sounds amazing, right? That’s exactly what Showit United is.
Every year in November, right in the middle of the busiest season for weddings in Texas, I pack my bags and head to Showit United. The conference is held in my home state of Arizona. I often forget how wonderful the dry heat is and how beautiful the sunsets and mountains are. There’s something so special about how the desert lights up, and I LOVE getting to photograph it each year!
This year’s theme was pretty consistent across the presenters speakers – your time is valuable. As an entrepreneur, it is so easy to get sucked into the hustle and rest is always pushed to the back burner. Does that sound familiar? I know it does for me. It was nice to have that reminder that you can’t pour from an empty cup, and it is so important to schedule time for rest and relationships.
My favorite part of United is always the amazing people that I meet while I’m there. There are so many photographers there from all over the world, and it is so refreshing to learn from individuals from all walks of life. In a way, Showit United is kind of like summer camp. I get to see some of my favorite people that I haven’t seen since our last trip. It’s our time to catch up and cheer each other on! You also have a chance to meet those big movers and shakers that we admire through Instagram. I don’t know if there ever will be a time where I’m not giddy to hug Katelyn James. I have to admit though, I love her even more after realizing that she’s just like me and she struggles with the same things I do.
Okay, I know you’re here to see the photos, so here are some of my favorites from this trip (both professional and iPhone photos!)! I’ll see you in 2018, Showit United!
And the iPhone pics 🙂
