I’m a twenty-something wedding photographer in Texas who photographs couples who are ready to celebrate their marriage. Building my business has been one hell of a ride, so grab a cup of coffee (or some wine - no judgement here) and join me for my life behind the lens.
This adventure started just over a year ago. God had set my soul on fire to chase this little dream of mine and that fire could no longer be ignored. I had no idea where to start, but I knew i wanted a catchy name. I spent weeks trying to find the perfect name for my soon-to-be photography business, and I eventually settled for Moments By Foxx. It was catchy, different, and slightly mysterious. I was in business.
Things were fine for a while. I started to book clients, God brought mentors into my life that helped my dream move as fast as I could run. I eventually found a designer on Etsy (Annie from PeachyStudio is awesome!) to redesign my cheap logo that I had put together in PowerPoint. Annie created a logo that was much nicer and unique – I was movin’ on up!
This whole journey would take an new direction when I sent my new logo to my dear friend and mentor, Breanna, for her opinion. Her response was something like this, “I know you’re not going to like this… but have you ever considered changing the name of your business to your name?”
NO WAY! I had thought to myself. My name is so unique! I stand out! It’s totally ME!
And then I had continued to think about it.
People knew why my name was Moments By Foxx, right?
Wait…maybe they didn’t.
I felt that I was too far into this to even consider a change. I mean, I had just filed my 2015 taxes with my business name… I can’t turn back now! I put the thought to rest and continued the Foxx journey.
I moved along, and a few weeks later, Breanna’s comment stirred in my head again. I was spending an evening with fellow creatives and entrepreneurs in San Antonio when I introduced myself to a fellow photographer.
“Hi, I’m Dawn!” — “Hey Dawn! Who do you work with?” — “Oh, I own Moments By Foxx…” — “OH I FOLLOW YOU ON INSTAGRAM! I had no idea that was you!”
Maybe Breanna was right.
I continued my journey and while at the Hope Taylor Workshop in March, Breanna’s feedback was echoed by Hope Taylor.
“You ARE your brand, and it’s HARD to be your brand when it’s not YOU!”
On the flight home, I started researching what I had to do to make this happen.
I made it back to San Antonio with my new business name and a new domain name. Dawn Elizabeth Studios was born. If I was going to do this, I was going to do it right. I contacted Kelly and Andra from With Grace and Gold to help me with my new brand journey. I met with Kelly and Andra via Google Hangout to talk about what I had in mind for my new brand. I wanted my brand to be a reflection of me and the clients I serve. I wanted it to be modern, bright, and joyful with a feminine touch. I want my clients to know exactly who I am and what to expect just by my brand style. They will receive bright, bold photos that capture the realness and joy of their most precious moments.
Dawn Elizabeth Studios is a piece of my heart in brand form and for the first time in my journey, I AM my brand. My day to day life, values, adventures and lessons are what make up my brand. The joyful aqua and a little gold elegance is scattered throughout, paired with a classic marble finish. I want my brides and seniors to know they are going to experience an elegant and joyful experience when working with Dawn Elizabeth Studios.
Thank you for being a part of this crazy adventure. I am so excited to serve you in this new chapter!
